i before e
This collaboration was originally meant to be a split tape. One side was Ian's project i before e, which was created using synthesizer software running on a cell phone and ipad. I was going to do a bunch of music for the opposite side. The tape was another aborted project, but we each came up with some great songs. I really like the way the i before e side turned out.
Nasa had released a bunch of audio clips of space related material, which was the spark that got us to put this together. In between the songs there are samples from the Nasa archive. Some of the other samples are from Sun Ra because who doesn't love Sun Ra. I saw his band, after he had passed, at the Walker Art Museum. The show really left an impression on me.
